Garden Hayter’s survey of current and aspirational UK homeowners has revealed interesting new data.

Discover how UK residents plan to use their gardens and how much certain types of gardens will affect decisions to purchase a property, as well as other insights relating to growing fruit and vegetables, and dealing with garden pests.

The findings of the survey

The survey covers a range of key findings:

•    80% say a garden is extremely important when choosing a new home.
•    75% say the size of the garden is the most important factor in moving home.
•    76% would not buy their dream home if the garden was small or non-existent.
•    83% of respondents would pay more for a home with a south-facing garden.
•    Only 5% wouldn’t pay more for a home with a larger garden.
•    72% of respondents are likely to grow tomatoes in their garden, making them the UK home grower’s veg of choice.

Below you will find a full breakdown of the survey findings.

Survey methodology: This survey was conducted by Hayter via email and social media. 929 respondents from across the UK participated, including England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Respondents were not screened and data was collected via multiple-choice questions. No weighting or data cleaning was applied. Participation was incentivised with a prize draw, which was unrelated to survey responses.
